Royal Academy of Music

Originally from Melbourne, Kate has developed a career as a professional singer and teacher in the UK for over 20 years.

Kate is an experienced soloist and for more than a decade has served as an Extra Chorister at the Royal Opera House.

In 2005, she was appointed Associate Professor of Vocal Studies at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, after having worked for three years as a voice teacher at Westminster School. At Guildhall, she taught voice in the Vocal Studies, Historical Performance, and Opera departments.

Kate recently completed a Master's degree in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education at the UCL Institute of Education. Her thesis focused on conservatory students' perceptions of expressiveness and interpretation, and how individual work with their teachers influences their interpretive processes.

Since completing her master's degree, her teaching at Guildhall has included master's student classes on Reflective Practice and extensive involvement in the PGCert in Performance Teaching program. In 2014, she was appointed a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Kate has a special interest in collaborative learning opportunities within the conservatory environment and works particularly hard to promote a dynamic, expressive, and engaged style of singing.
